Come out to the beautiful Yeon property and help spruce things up with the NPS!

Bring water, snacks if you think you'll want some, and tools for pruning (pruners, loppers, saws--and if anyone has a bow saw that would really be useful) and eradication (shovels, spades, weeders). If birding is your thing, bring binoculars because it's migrating season and we've already noted quite a few different species flying around.

We are continuing our work removing invasives. I think we can wrap up our work pulling spurge laurel in the field near the entrance gate tomorrow, and we may want to do some search and destroy around the main areas by the house. In addition, Kayla has asked that we also turn our attention to the yellow iris (but nor the purple ones) around the water; she'd like us to deadhead the flowers before they go to seed, and while we can take the flowers home for bouquets, she advises against bulb removal and replanting as this species is extremely aggressive.

If you haven't been there before, here are the driving directions and make sure to fill out the Volunteer Form (linked here) and bring it with you if you haven't done so already!

Here are the driving directions to the Yeon House:

  1. Take Highway 101 to Sunset Beach Lane  (main access road to Sunset Beach).
  2. Take Sunset Beach to Lewis Road (4-way stop sign)
  3. Turn left onto Lewis Road.
  4. Turn right onto Nevada Lane, which becomes a gravel road, and follow it (it becomes Clark Road) through the gate all the way to the house

You have to pass through a residential area to reach the gate, so please drive slowly and carefully.
